gold coin with head of Nero, Rome, 50-54 CE
This coin, issued by Claudius, shows a Nero as a youth before his accession as emperor. The inscription reads “For Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus, consul designate” (NERONI CLAVDIO DRVSO GERM. COS. DESIGN.).

gold coin with facing portraits of Nero and Agrippina the Younger on obverse, Rome, 54 CE
One of the first precious metal coins struck by Nero upon his accession as emperor. The inscription reads “Agrippina Augusta, wife of the Divine Claudius, mother of Nero Caesar” (AGRIPP. AVG. DIVI CLAVD. NERONIS CAES. MATER). Nero's inscription appears only on the reverse of the coin around an oak wreath.

The third precious metal coinage of Nero as emperor. The inscription reads “Nero, son of the Divine Claudius, Imperator, holder of Tribunician power, consul” (NERO CLAUD. DIVI F. CAES. AVG. GERM. IMP. TR. P. COS.).

This coin shows the god Jupiter standing behind the emperor Trajan and holding a thunderbolt protectively over his head. The inscription reads CONSERVATORI PATRIS PATRIAE ("for the preservation of the Father of the Country").
