Connecting to VRoma
NOTE: This document is for VRoma staff and others who are using the MOO with their students. If you would like to help, see our form for potential volunteers.

How to connect to VRoma:

Our MOO address is www.vroma.org port 8200.

There are 3 ways you can connect to VRoma. All allow you to talk to other people who are logged on, but what you are able to see and do varies:
  1. via the Web Gateway
This is the preferred method for accessing VRoma, as it allows the integration of multimedia and outside resources such as Roman Perseus. If your platform/web browser combination supports Java telnet applets (see the gateway page for more information), you do NOT need a separate piece of software to do this -- just a browser and URL. If you have an older Mac or for some other reason can't do Java telnet applets, then you will also need a telnet session, but this can also be launched from the Gateway.
  2. with a Telnet application
This text-only "command line" option is probably the least satisfactory interface, especially if you will be "talking to" several other people. If you can't use the Web Gateway, consides getting one of the many MOO (Mud) clients freely available on the internet. Note that you will not only miss images and other multimedia content linked to MOO buildings, but also any descriptive text that has been marked up for the web. (Most rooms will show up empty and undescribed!) Click here to launch a telnet session into VRoma (if your browser is configured to do so). Otherwise, launch telnet yourself and open a session to the address above. [More information about how to use telnet.]
  3. with a specialized MOO client Here are links from which you can download some of these:
