Chapter XVI is a review of all the work that you have done so far. Some very common irregular verbs are also introduced, along with the forms of the adjective polu/j.

 

IRREGULAR VERBS

Study the principal parts (first, second, third, and last) of the common irregular verbs listed below so that you can recognize any form of any one of them. By now, most of them will be thoroughly familiar. The principal parts are found beginning at Thrasymachus, page 244.

Three important verbs, bai/nw, fhmi/, and gignw/skw, have irregular but easily recognizable forms. See Thrasymachus page 61.

 

IDIOMS

This is a good time to review such idioms as h} d' o#j, kai\ dh\ kai/, te/loj de, and a!llote ... a!llote.

 

FORMS OF polu/j

The forms of this very common adjective are declined at Thrasymachus, page 61. Observe them carefully and note the forms that appear in the reading.

REREADING

Reread Chapter XVI and enjoy Thrasymachus' version of his adventures to this point. Make sure that every verb form is clear to you, and that you can state its mood, tense, voice and English translation. Review any case endings on adjectives or nouns, and any pronoun forms that you do not recognize easily.
