VRoma Programmer and Wizard Policies

The VRoma Project offers students (and others) in Classics and related disciplines who are also interested in Computer Science an opportunity to receive hands-on experience in programming, interface design and html and multimedia authoring. VRoma community members may apply for programming privileges, which will be granted at the discretion of the VRoma consuls. The consuls may request that the applicant send one or more letters of recommendation from appropriate indivduals (e.g. from faculty members at their institution) or other supporting documentation (e.g. of previous projects). The archwizard (or consuls) may also request an interview with the candidate. Generally, a candidate will be asked to specify one or more programming projects s/he has in mind that will improve the VRoma MOO. Candidates may also be asked to provide details about project design and implementation.

Experienced MOO programmers who are interested in making continued contributions to the community may be invited to become VRoma wizards. These invitations will be accompanied by explicit statements (in writing) of the responsibilities that accompany the appointment, which the candidate will be expected to sign. The consuls and archwizard may also request that the candidate solicit letters of recommendation (again, from faculty members at the candidate's institution). One or more interviews may also be requested of the candidate. The length of appointment will be one year, with possibilty of renewal each year, subject to the Consul's and archwizard's approval, and the ability of the candidate to make the committment. In some cases, the VRoma consuls may arrange for the candidate to receive academic credit at his or her home institution, though such an arrangement is entirely dependent on the policies of the institution.
