"My Back Pages" from Another Side of Bob Dylan (1964)

Quote:

Girls' faces formed the forward path / From phony jealousy. / To memorizing politics / Of ancient history.

Comments:

This song isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the American educational-industrial complex (or of teachers themselves, whom Dylan calls "mongrel dogs"). Dylan doesn't seem especially hostile to education itself, though; perhaps he is paraphrasing Twain's famous sentiment: "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education."
