The Pope's "palace" could actually be a reference to three different buildings: (1) the Apostolic Palace, the Pope's residence on St. Peter's Square in Vatican City; (2) Castel Gandolfo, the Pope's summer residence in the Alban Hills, about 25 miles from Rome; (3) the Lateran Palace in Rome, the official papal residence for about 1000 years.
