CANIS ET CROCODILUS
Many dogs were living in Egypt. When they
were thirsty, they used to drink water from the Nile River. It was necessary,
however, to drink quickly because there were many crocodiles who always
seemed to be hungry and who wanted to eat other animals.
Once a big dog began to drink water. A crocodile said in a sweet voice,
"Do not hurry! The water is very good. Drink slowly and without haste.
Do not be afraid!"
But the big dog with a slight laugh replied, "Many thanks! I like to drink slowly and without haste, but I know that you are always hungry and that you want to eat me. Yesterday you ate my good friend. I do not trust you. Therefore I shall not stay." He drank water from the river very quicly and escaped unharmed.
Moral: Do not listen to advice given by scoundrels.
